OUTDOOR SCHOOL
activities

Fifth and sixth grade students visit Camp Tamarack each Spring and Fall for an unforgettable Outdoor School experience with their classmates! Check out all of the fun activities they get to participate in below!

What to expect
at Outdoor School
exploration time
Explore Dark Lake and the surrounding Deschutes National Forest with an inquiry mindset! Instructors guide students through student-centered and nature-centered lessons on topics such as local ecology, decomposition, macroinvertebrates, and bark beetles!

recreation time
Students have the opportunity to participate in 3 or 4 Recreation Activities during Outdoor School! Activity offerings may vary depending on the length of stay. Recreation activities include canoeing, crafting, recess and team building!
cabin life
Students sleep in bunk houses with 6-12 beds each. Each student sleeps in their own bunk and has a drawer to store their belongings. Cabins each have a private changing stall.

campfire
Skits and songs around the fire are the perfect end to each night at Outdoor School! Depending on weather, campfires take place lakeside or in our cozy living room. Cabins compete for the Tammy Award each night and hope to earn the prestigious title of Best Skit!
meals
Students are served 3 meals and a snack a day from our 5-star camp kitchen team! Meals are served buffet-style with several options. Breakfast is always served with yogurt, fruit and oatmeal, and a hot item such as eggs and potatoes or pancakes. Lunch and dinner are always served with a salad bar, fruit and PB & J, plain pasta, and a hot item such as pizza, chicken nuggets or sandwiches, or pulled pork. With advanced notice, our kitchen team is happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions.
